Award-winning audio-drama director Carl Prekopp uses a combination of studios and site-specific location recording to create an immersive, truthful and exciting way of storytelling using only sound and voice. He loves to create vivid pictures in the imagination of his listeners. His preferred mode of recording is to use Binaural microphones to re-create a listening experience as panoramic and close to real life as possible, counterbalancing an expansive depth of field with extreme close-on work.

Carl’s experimental working method allows the actors to have as much physical freedom as they need to facilitate a fully embodied performance. He appreciates the value of creative collaboration and encourages everyone within the cast and crew to share their ideas during the recording process. He is always keen to try on-the-fly suggestions as they often yield the most interesting results.

Carl has worked extensively with Almost Tangible and the BBC alongside award-winning sound designers/composers David Chilton from Essential Music and John Nicholls.
